You run a client's account or your own business on Instagram and want posts to go out on Facebook automatically too. You click "Connect" somewhere in settings, and Instagram either can't see your Page or throws an error saying something is already linked. Sound familiar?
It almost always comes down to one of three things: the Instagram account isn't a professional account yet, you don't have admin access to the Facebook Page, or that Instagram account is already linked to a different Page. Once you know which one to check, connecting the accounts takes minutes.
This guide walks through how to connect Instagram to Facebook using two methods (from your phone and from a computer), what you need before you start, and how to fix the most common errors. If you're looking for a broader guide to connecting all your platforms to SyncBooster (Facebook, Google, LinkedIn), check out how to connect social media accounts. This article focuses purely on linking Instagram and Facebook on Meta's side, regardless of which publishing tool you use.
What you need before you connect Instagram to Facebook
Before you click anything, check two things. First, your Instagram account has to be a professional account (Business or Creator) - a personal account won't even show the option to link to a Page. Second, you need the admin role on the Facebook Page you want to connect. Editor, Moderator or Analyst roles aren't enough to approve the connection.
There's a third condition most guides skip entirely: one Instagram account can only be linked to one Facebook Page at a time. If someone (or you, on a different occasion) already connected that account to another Page, the new connection will fail until you disconnect the old one first. The errors section below shows exactly how to do that.
If your account is still personal, switch it to professional in the Instagram app: profile -> menu (three lines) -> Settings and privacy -> Account type and tools -> Switch to professional account. The change is free, reversible, and doesn't touch your followers or post history.
How to connect Instagram to Facebook through Accounts Center
The fastest way works from your phone and takes a few minutes.
Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
Tap the menu (three horizontal lines, top right) and choose Settings and privacy.
Find and open Accounts Center.
Choose Add accounts, then Add Facebook account.
Log in to the Facebook account that has admin access to the Page.
Pick the right Page from the list and confirm the connection.
Afterward, go back to your Instagram profile and check in Accounts Center that the Page shows as connected. If a "Share to Facebook" toggle appears when you create a new post, you know the connection is live.
Second method: connecting Instagram to Facebook through Page settings
If you'd rather work from a computer, or you already manage the Page from a browser, you can connect from the Facebook side instead.
Log in to Facebook and go to your Page.
In the left menu, open Settings, then Linked accounts.
Next to Instagram, click Connect account.
Log in to Instagram (it has to be a professional account).
Confirm the connection on both consent screens.
Both methods lead to the same result, so pick whichever fits how you already work. If you run a single brand, the phone method is usually faster. If you're already at a computer managing the Page, the second method saves you from switching devices.
Managing multiple brands? Connect through a Business Portfolio
Freelancers and small agencies handling more than one Page usually manage them through Meta Business Suite (formerly Business Manager, renamed Business Portfolio in 2024; the feature itself and the business.facebook.com address didn't change). There, you connect Instagram once at the business level: Business Settings -> Accounts -> Instagram accounts -> Add, then assign the account to a specific Page. The advantage is managing every client brand from one place instead of logging into each Page separately. The same limit still applies: one Instagram account can only belong to one Business Portfolio at a time.
A real example: a freelancer running social media for four local hair salons has four separate client Pages inside one Business Portfolio. Two already have Instagram connected; two don't, because the salon owners tried to do it themselves earlier and got stuck on the "already connected" error (see the errors section below). Instead of logging into each client's account separately, she finishes the connection from a single Business Suite panel.
If you work with a client who doesn't want to give you admin access to their Page, you don't need to ask for it. In how to connect social media accounts we show how to send a client a link to connect it themselves, without handing over any permissions.
Common errors when connecting Instagram and Facebook
"This isn't a business account." You're trying to connect a personal account. Fix: switch to professional in Instagram Settings (above), then try again.
Instagram says it's "already connected" to another Page. This is the most common trap, and the one most guides gloss over. Open Accounts Center on Instagram, find the current Facebook connection, and tap Disconnect. Only after disconnecting does the old Page stop "blocking" the account, and you can connect it to the right one.
You don't see your Page on the list. You're checking from an account without the admin role. A typical case: a restaurant owner hands social media over to an employee but forgets to grant them admin access to the Page, so the employee has nothing to pick from the list. Ask the Page admin to grant you that role, or have them do the connection themselves. If the Page belongs to a Business Portfolio, being an admin alone might not be enough: you also need full control in the business settings, which we cover in more detail in why you can't connect Facebook.
The wrong account got connected. The app links whichever account you're currently logged into in your browser or phone. Log out of the wrong account on that platform, log into the right one, and try again, or do the whole connection in a private/incognito window.
Why connect Instagram to Facebook at all
Connecting Instagram and Facebook isn't a formal requirement, but it unlocks a few things you can't do without it. You publish the same post to both platforms in one click instead of pasting it twice. Messages and comments from both channels land in one shared inbox in Meta Business Suite, so you're not checking two apps separately. Advantage+ ad campaigns automatically split budget between Facebook and Instagram wherever they find the cheaper audience, and Instagram Shopping (selling products straight from your profile) won't work at all without an active connection to a Page.
For a local business in Poland, this isn't a niche feature. According to the Digital 2026: Poland report, based on data from late 2025, Facebook has 18.7 million users in Poland and Instagram has 12.4 million. A large share of your customers are active on both platforms at once, so running separate accounts means doing every publishing task twice.
What this changes inside SyncBooster
Once Instagram and Facebook are linked on Meta's side, SyncBooster gives you two ways to connect Instagram to your panel: directly (logging in with just the Instagram account) or through the Facebook integration, if the accounts are already linked. For a freelancer or agency managing several clients, the second option means one login instead of two separate authorizations per brand, and from there you plan and publish to both channels from a single calendar instead of switching between apps.

Frequently asked questions
Can I connect a personal Instagram account to Facebook?
No. Connecting to a Facebook Page only works with professional accounts: Business or Creator. Switching account types is free, reversible, and doesn't affect your followers or post history.
Why does Instagram say my account is already connected to another Page?
Because one Instagram account can only be linked to one Facebook Page at a time. Open Accounts Center on Instagram, disconnect the current link, then connect the account to the right Page.
Do I need admin access to the Page to connect it?
Yes. Editor, Moderator and Analyst roles don't have permission to approve the connection. If the Page belongs to a Business Portfolio, being an admin alone might not be enough - you also need full control in the business settings.
How do I connect Instagram to several client Pages at once?
You can't link one Instagram account to multiple Pages at the same time, but you can manage several brands from one place through Meta Business Suite (Business Portfolio): there you assign a separate Instagram account to each client's Page and see them all in one panel.
What happens if I disconnect Instagram from a Facebook Page?
Both accounts stay untouched - you just lose the shared features: cross-posting, the shared inbox, and the ability to run ads spanning both platforms at once. You can reconnect them the same way at any time.
Once your accounts are linked on Meta's side, the rest comes down to which tool you publish with. If you're still scheduling posts manually on two platforms, this is a good moment to change that: connect Instagram and Facebook in Settings -> Accounts inside SyncBooster and publish to both channels from one place, instead of pasting the same post twice.
Ready to stop publishing manually on two platforms? See how SyncBooster schedules and publishes to Instagram and Facebook from a single panel, with a single authorization.
